Here we are a class of “Ds” and “Is”, as professor mention he hasn’t had a class with so many “dictators”!! Now all in-class debates start to make sense as we have so many people who want their opinions to be heard…Well I guess I’m one of themJ
To be sincere I kind of knew the outcome for myself as I’ve taking a test on temperaments and turned out to be Choleric sub-Sanguine. If not everyone familiar with this test I would recommend you to try it on yourselves, it’s in a way similar to the one we took but, in my perspective, it gives a little bit more detailed and broadly oriented characteristics of one’s character.
So “Choleric is a person who is a do-er. They have a lot of ambition, energy, and passion, and try to instill it in others. They can dominate people of other temperaments, especially phlegmatic types. Many great charismatic military and political figures were cholerics; they like to be leaders and in charge of everything.”
”The Sanguine temperament personality is fairly extroverted. People of a sanguine temperament tend to enjoy social gatherings, making new friends and tend to be quite loud. They are usually quite creative and often daydream. However, some alone time is crucial for those of this temperament. Sanguine can also mean very sensitive, compassionate and thoughtful. Sanguine personalities generally struggle with following tasks all the way through, are chronically late, and tend to be forgetful and sometimes a little sarcastic. Often, when pursuing a new hobby, interest is lost quickly when it ceases to be engaging or fun. They are very much people persons. They are talkative and not shy. For some people, these are the ones you want to be friends with and usually they become lifelong friends. Sanguine can be sometimes emotional.”(Thanks to Wikipedia)
If you read it through you will find many similarities between these characteristics and the ones for D and I personality types. And I believe that using such a test on work place can be very advantageous for an employer as well as for an employee. First of all, an employer will be able to pace a worker on a position where he/she will be most effective and productive as different positions required different character specifics, on the other hand an employee will be able to perform on a position that will be involving one’s strong characteristics which will boost the results of performed tasks and increase satisfaction on the work place.
But a very important question can be raised: Can one switch from having one character type to the other…I believe one can shift come features or eliminate some of them by persistently work on it but I doubt a possibility of jumping from “C” to “D” type or wise versa.
I myself as “D” sub-“I” possibly would want to enhance my “I” side as I want to become less of Dominant toward Influential type as Dominant character from one point is a mover but from the other side is very directive character and I would like to be perceived more as a guider then a director. However, knowledge that we gained about ourselves is a treasure that we can use to improve some flaws in ourselves and also to understand what career path would be more suitable considering one’s personality.
Interestingly enough my friend Daria and I turned out to be the opposite, she is “Ci” and I’m “Di”…and I guess we complement each other, which can be another good thing to know at a work place.
Dominatrix!!! Just joking.
ReplyDeleteI never thought you were this type. You look like a sweet girl, with blond hair.. but after revising your blog posts I came to realize that this may be true.
You are definitely ambitious and know what you want. Your vision of opening your own business and a club in school shows that you know where you want to get to and what you have to do to get there.
However, being a dominant person is not always good, I'm happy you recognize this and is making an effort to become more of an influential.
Good luck
It's very good that you know what you might want change in order to improve yourself. A lot of people think that they do not need to improve and they are wrong. There is always room and it's very healthy for someone to be able to recognize areas they would like to change.
ReplyDeleteI think the results that you got are correct. I expected you to get Di. I know you for almost a year and i certainly think that dominance is the word to describe you at work. Honestly, i think you will be a great manager:) maybe you should reconsider your major? :))))
ReplyDeleteI can relate to what you said about having a Choleric temperament and "D" sub-"I" personality because I am also Choleric and a "D" sub-"I" type. Indeed, choleric are the ones who always needs an action, takes risks a lot and ambitious. I know that a person`s handwriting can also describe his personality and my psychology professor described my personality by just taking a look at my handwriting.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I agree that this kind of test maybe very helpful in choosing a field where you want to work
Your blog was very informative and enlightening. It is good that you have observed that there are things in your personality that you need to change. A lot of people go through life thinking that they have it all together, even when told about their flaws and how it affects others.
ReplyDeleteBeing that we are both Di's, I now see why we get along! I find it interesting that you want to be less dominant and more influential. It may be because of the line of work that I'm going into requires a lot of dominance and the line of work you want to go into will benefit from you being more influential.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting post, especially what you wrote about temperaments types. There are four of them, if i am not mistaken and it would be helpful for others to test themselves as well, because it will show in more depths about one's personality.
ReplyDeleteBut the test we had in class is more about working environment and i think it is helpful somewhat to see what kind of people can be hired or working along side with us. One thing I am certain of is that all DISC types have to be complemented by other DISC types, and it is good that you find yours in school.
What is the name of the test that youre talking about i definately want to take it!I very much agree that it is probably harder to shift from something drestic like a D toaa more concervative C, perhaps your friend is right an you should change you major :)
